Introduction

In this guide you will learn how to disassemble the alternator, remove and replace the voltage regulator, and then reassemble the alternator.

  1. Loosen and remove retaining nut.
    • Loosen and remove retaining nut.

    • Make sure you hang on to the adaptor when removing nut.

    • Remove output cable adaptor

  2. Loosen and remove pulley nut. You will probably need an impact wrench to loosen the pulley nut. Remove pulley.
    • Loosen and remove pulley nut.

    • You will probably need an impact wrench to loosen the pulley nut.

    • Remove pulley.

  3. Loosen and remove 4 body bolts. When reassembling the unit check the rotor to make sure it free wheels without any internal interference. When reassembling, the body bolts must be tightened to 60 in/lb.
    • Loosen and remove 4 body bolts.

    • When reassembling the unit check the rotor to make sure it free wheels without any internal interference.

    • When reassembling, the body bolts must be tightened to 60 in/lb.

    • Remove Front Cover

    • It may be necessary to tap the boss on the front cover in order to loosen it from the stator assembly.

    • When reassembling make sure the holes in the bosses on the left side are lined up.

  4. Remove bearing spacer. Remove rotor assembly from alternator. Remove rotor assembly from alternator.
    • Remove bearing spacer.

    • Remove rotor assembly from alternator.

  5. There are three screws holding the rectifier bridge. There are two screws holding the voltage regulator. There are two screws holding the voltage regulator.
    • There are three screws holding the rectifier bridge.

    • There are two screws holding the voltage regulator.

  6. Tap the boss on the front bracket to separate from the stator assembly. Separate front bracket and stator assembly. Be careful not to break the plastic components at the bottom of the stator assembly.
    • Tap the boss on the front bracket to separate from the stator assembly.

    • Separate front bracket and stator assembly.

    • Be careful not to break the plastic components at the bottom of the stator assembly.

  7. Remove screws attaching Voltage Regulator to rectifier bridge. Pull Voltage Regulator out through the bottom of the stator. The stator and rectifier bridge with the voltage regulator removed.
    • Remove screws attaching Voltage Regulator to rectifier bridge.

    • Pull Voltage Regulator out through the bottom of the stator.

    • The stator and rectifier bridge with the voltage regulator removed.
